Patrick Clancy's "Sunrise at Calf Pasture Beach" Wins Weather Photo of the Day

Hello.

Digtlcmr Congratulations to Patrick Clancy for winning our Election Day vote and earning News 12 Connecticut's Weather Photo of the Day. Patrick's outstanding photo, Sunrise at Calf Pasture Beach, was a landslide winner by garnering 66% of the nearly 100 total ballots cast.

I was quite impressed with the response, since the poll was set to accept only one vote per computer. Based on the number of daily photos I'm receiving, I suspect this may become a regular feature. Refer to the previous post below to see Patrick's photo.

Joanie Webster of Southport's photo, Dock of the Bay, finished second with 21% of the vote. Shondell Thomas' entry, Autumn at Jones Family Farm, came in third with seven percent of the vote. Here's a look at the final vote totals in our Election Day poll.

Several more photos were sent to me early this morning. As you're aware, many of the trees are now barren across southwestern Connecticut, but some are still showing splendid Autumn color. Deb Kandro took this outstanding photo of the brilliant leaves contrasted against the clear blue sky at the Bargain News in Trumbull Corporate Park.

Robert Crespo brought his camera with him to the Stamford Nature Center & Museum. Here's a tranquil scene of a park bench by the calm water. Wouldn't it be nice just to sit down and relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature?

Carol Koenig didn't forget her camera while aboard her boat on Long Island Sound. Here's one of many photos she sent to us illustrating the beauty of the sun just above the horizon.

She also took another photo from atop Mohawk Mountain. Here's a great view of the sky and colorful foliage.

Our weather will remain unseasonably mild through the start of the weekend. Today will be mostly cloudy and breezy with showers developing this afternoon. The high temperature will reach the lower 60s. Tonight will be cloudy and windy with periods of rain and a low of 50 to 55. Early showers tomorrow will give way to some partial clearing by afternoon with a high in the lower 60s.

A cold front will approach the region Saturday bringing another threat of showers and a possible thunderstorm to southwestern Connecticut. Cooler air drier air will arrive by later in the weekend. Veteran's Day will be partly sunny and dry with a high in the lower 50s.

Thanks for all the weather photos. I sincerely appreciate it.

Paul

I wonder which part of Mohawk Mountain the photo was taken from? That area is special to me because the sleep-away camp I attended for 5 summers way back when is located on the south side of the mountain; I did go skiing for the first (and last!) time at the ski area up there on a 6th grade trip. It's gorgeous up there in the Summer and Winter as well....great to see a Fall foliage photo from the place that I've seen in two different seasons!

Have a great Wednesday!

Jennifer. It was at the top near where the look out tower was. If you come up the drive all the way it's the view to the left. I have another great photo with the view to the right (which is my favorite). We go every Columbus Day weekend with a stop at Nodine's Smokehouse for their annual taste test and then take the scenic drive back down. It's my favorite outing of the year, aside from being on the boat.

Carol,
Oh wow...I remember that lookout tower!
I've been up there a number of times while at camp, and on the hikes up there we would stop at the top, and we would be able to climb up into the tower, and I'd have my camera with me taking pictures! The views from *all* sides was unbelieveable! Also, we'd hike up there because down another trail in the mountain area there is a structure that supposedly used to be a hunting lodge but it looks like a castle tower that us campers would refer to as "Mohawk Charlie's Castle"....LONG camp/urban legend story in regards to that! I have pictures of that as well...what memories!!

Jennifer,

Yes I think I know what you are talking about. A few years ago we found an old stone tower. I actually have pictures of us climbing up the stairs that went along the wall. My b/f used to camp up there throughout the year as a boyscout when he was young. There's also a great look out tower at I believe Mount Tom. It's a bit of a hike in ... but the view is fabulous!!! 360 degrees! As for the look out at Mohawk, we did climb it last year ...at least what was left of it. This was the first year we couldn't since it was gone :-(
