We spend our days at News 12 Connecticut covering shootings, stabbings, fraud, rape, an economy on the brink of disaster, you name it. So today it was a nice escape to spend a half an hour putting together clips for an interview on previous Superbowl ads. I know they are silly, so many relying on dumb pranks and prat falls, but they do make me laugh. And as I was reviewing what I had, various co-workers walked by, then stopped with an opinion on the ad they liked the best. Photog Chris liked the E-Trade baby who spends his new found stock market cash on "Bobo" the clown, but, as he says, he "really underestimated its creepiness". Heather K. liked the ad for Pepsi Max and didn't care for the screaming animal ad where a squirrel is about to become road kill but is spared thanks to the driver's new Bridgestone tires. One ad that I hadn't seen before showed a man that was able to fly thanks to his Bud Lite, only to be sucked into the engine of a passing airliner (sound familiar?). The flying man was okay in the end, Bud Lite still in tow. This blog has no real point other than I look forward to what the creative minds of advertising have come up with this year. It should be the good laugh and nice distraction we can all use!
If you like to see some of the ads for yourself check out spike.com or my interview on "12 On The Money" the weekend of January 31st.
