Long Island High School families play an important role in their youngsters' athletic ambitions. In the younger grades, parents drive their kids to practice sessions. Parents watch games, root or console, hopefully praise and not criticize, sharing a memorable family experience. With so many sports available, there should be a niche for everyone. But in today's workplace, many single or working parents don't have the opportunity to watch their kids in action. Some of these folks plan trips to coincide with the school's vacation schedule. This has caused conflicts with coaches, athletic directors and the stay-at-home athletes who watch their championship ambitions disappear when reserves take their place in the line-up. Here's a solution. School authorities should ban games during vacation time. Practice should be voluntary..not mandatory. This may result in shorter seasons particularly in the spring, but this ruling would be fairer to all. The present situation demands action. I'm Bob Wolff and that is my point of view.
dear bob< when our daughter melanie was in middle school she tried out and made the cut for the varsity basketball team.she showed up at every practice and game no exceptions until her religious studies began for her bat mitzvah. she was required to attend temple saturday mornings from 10 - 12 and wednesday eves from 4-6 every week for a year.the school team dropped her as a player because she was unable to come to games if they were on a saturday or wednesday .ill never forget that time in our daughters life.she now is own the road to become a medical doctor .i hope the coaches @ her middle school remember her. they can all say i knew her when !
