I pulled up to the pumps today to get my first ever fill-up at $4.04 per gallon.
I put $40 worth of bills this morning into the attendant's hand and hoped it would get me at least half a tankful. As I watched the gas being pumped in, I listened to the complaints of other drivers.
"I've never felt more vulnerable," said one man getting his work van topped off.
"I'm switching to the Long Island Railroad," said another motorist in an SUV.
"There is nothing we can do to change this," said the attendant "They're calling the shots at OPEC and at the big oil companies."
Finally, the $40 top off was complete and I looked at my trusty gas gauge, just slightly over half full!
You know maybe they're right--I should set the example as the News 12 transportation reporter and switch to riding the LIRR. At least it wouldn't cost me more than $300 per month to drive alone in my gas starved Volvo sedan.
