There are rumors J-Lo had her "asset" insured for 27 million dollars.
Sir Mix a Lot had most of us singing about " big butts"
Destiny's Child with Beyonce sang about being "Bootylicious"
Queen crooned about the "fat bottomed girls".. make the rockin' world go round!
Well now now if your gluteus maximus region has you shaking "what your mama gave ya" when those songs come on..you may be in luck!
The extra "junk in the trunk" may actually protect you from diabetes.
No this isn't a joke--
Harvard researchers found that the type of fat that accumulates around the hips and buttocks (called subcutaneous fat) helps to improve sensitivity to the hormone insulin.
Insulin regulates blood sugar-- hence the connection between your bottom and diabetes.
The problem is.. if you don't have six pack abs and more of a keg under your shirt-- you're not so lucky as the those with big booties.
The belly fat increases the risk for diabetes!
So where your fat stores itself is an important indicator of problems you may face.
Harvard Medical School is trying to figure out why fat in different parts of the body has different effects on the metabolism.
So now they've transplanted subcutaneous fat from the hips and buttocks... into the abdomens of mice.
But get this... the mice lost weight and their fat cells shrank, even though they made no changes in their diet or activity levels!
I know I've wished my fat could be transplanted to other areas-- but never my belly! I wonder if moving that "subcutaneous fat " to your area of choice could work too--
( if you want to find the study on this it's in the journal Cell Metabolism)
