I can't believe Memorial Day is next week! I am so excited for the "unofficial" start of summer. I love the warm weather. There are so many great events to look forward to... beach parties, weddings, the Sex and The City movie! Plus, I can't wait for my city friends to start making the trek east to visit (although I do not look forward to the extra traffic)!
We all know that for many NYC dwellers and the rich and famous around the world, Memorial Day is the holiday that marks their entry to our island.
We started a new segment called "What's Going On" for our morning and daytime shows. Each day, I spend hours searching for cool concerts, events, and celeb appearances to feature. Long Island has had its fair share of celebrity visits lately!
If you are into celebrity sightings, then maybe you saw Brett Michaels at Whitehouse in the Hamptons or when he performed at Mulcahy's. Nickelodeon's Naked Brothers Band thrilled Long Island kids at Walmart!
Ashlee Simpson also came to Walmart in Farmingdale to sign
autographs. I had a chance to interview her and she was very tiny and very sweet. She also performed at
Mirage (I heard she brought fiancee Fall Out Boy Pete Wenz). She's coming back to LI to perform at the Capital One Theater at Westbury on July 1st.... will she have a wedding band or baby bump? Maybe she'll bring big sis Jess this time!
Kim Kardashian visited Oragin. (Thanks Rich for the photo!) She's headed back to Long Island on Sunday, May 25th. She is hosting a "white ball" at Whitehouse in Hampton Bays (like Diddy's white party) . Her famous step brother and Hills star, Brody Jenner will be at Whitehouse this Saturday, May 17th. I hear he is single again and on the prowl! I would not be surprised it they have a lot of other celebrity appearances throughout the summer. I will keep you posted!
I am going to do a weekly blog on my event picks.
The best are yet to come--there's a fantastic line-up of concerts at Jones Beach. I am personally looking forward to the New Kids concert at the Nassau Coliseum in September... but I don't want to wish the summer away just yet! They will actually be at Macy's in Herald Square Friday (May 16) at noon.
I'd love to get feedback on the events you go to--or plan on going to! I am also trying to learn about our wonderful Long Island bands... so please, if you know of any great ones, let me know!
Event picks...
If you like 80s love songs, you may like the Foreigner Concert at Capital One Bank Theater, Friday at 8 pm.
Howard Stern fans... you can see Artie Lange at Capital One Bank Theater on Saturday at 7 pm.
You don't have to go all the way to 1313 Mockingbird Lane to see the Munsters! Meet Butch Patrick-- aka- Eddie Munster at the Book Revue in Huntington Saturday night at 7. On Sunday, see legendary Long Islander Dee Snider and raise money for the March of Dimes at Dee Snider's Bikers for Babies Ride. Kick stands go up at 11 am at Point Lookout. There's also a post-ride party... rumor has it Dee's son Jesse Blaze Snider may perform! This weekend tickets go on sale for American Idol live, Rock the Bells (huge hip hop concert) and Linkin' Park ! (with Dee last year on Billy Joel's bike)
Did you see him on MTV's Rock the Cradle? He rocks and happens to be a super nice guy just like his dad! Catch Dee on our Morning Show on Thursday 5-15.
