When I heard the Strong Man Series was coming to Madison Square Garden, i had just two questions:
When is it....and how much will I be lifting?
Ya see, I consider myself strong and in shape...and as my co-anchor Strongwoman Sivan says, "Don't sing it, bring it!"
So I went and all I can say is, I've never felt weaker in my life.
First, they denied my entrance into the competition because I could walk too easily through the door.
If you've never see a Strongman Contest, and come on, even my mom has stopped to watch it on TV for a few seconds at 2am, this is what you get:
Uhuh. And in case you're looking at these photos like I did and find yourself saying, "I could do that", read on.
- Power Medley (Flip & Carry): Contestants flip a 900 lb. tire four times, followed by carrying a 385 lb. weight 50 feet to the finish line
- Eleiko Last Man Standing Deadlift: Contestants must dead lift an Eleiko Bar in 20 seconds, with the weight of the bar increasing each time, until there is one man left standing.
- Husafeld Stone Carry: Contestants lift and carry a 400 lb. "Husafeld Stone" as far as they can.
- Axle Lift (Clean & Press / Jerk): Contestants have one minute to lift a 300 lb. axle from the ground to their shoulders, and then over their head.
- Super Yoke / Duck Walk Medley : Contestants carry a 900 lb. yoke 41 feet, and then carry a 500 lb. weight another 41 feet to the finish line.
- Atlas Stones: Contestants lift and load stones ranging in weight from 295 lbs. to 420 lbs. onto raised platforms.
Is it really necessary for me to continue? Didn't think so.
Oh, one more thing. These guys are not just incredible super human freaks, they're nicer than most football, basketball and baseball players I've ever spoken to. And that's AFTER lifting a 400 lb stone onto a six-foot tall cylinder.
