Did anyone catch Mariah Carey throwing out the first pitch at the Tokyo Dome in Japan? If not, here's a clip. Mariah's Pitch
Whaddya think? Pretty embarrassing, huh? I mean, that has to be the worst first pitch in the
history of
first pitches. I think it touched down just inches from where she was standing in her 6-inch stilettos and hot
pants. I can personally comment on throwing out a first pitch because I recently have, at the Long Island Ducks game. (I wore jeans. My hot pants were in the wash.)
Anyway, I have to tell you, it is a little nerve-racking. Although you're only being asked to throw a ball straight in front of you, there's a lot of added pressure with thousands of people watching. That simple little throw can take a turn for the
worse, literally. Fortunately, my pitch turned out a little better than Mariah's. No, it did not cross the plate. But in my book, it was a great amateur high change-up that juuuuuust missed the outside corner. Take a look at the action shot on the right here.
So now that you've seen mine, and Mariah's, I'd like to comment a little on Ms. Carey, oops I'm sorry, I mean Mrs. Cannon's first pitch.
Let's start with the outfit. A pink shiny jacket. I assume is trying to resemble what a real baseball jacket looks like. (About 3 times smaller than it actually should be.) Jean shorts that it looks like I would have fit into when I was in the 5th grade. Big sunglasses to block the sun in the Tokyo DOME. (There's no sun in a dome, it's closed.) And last but not least, stiletto heels. Missed them? Take another look. Mariah's Pitch
Next, the performance. I LOVE the double mascot entrance. They were probably requested by Mariah's people to make sure she didn't fall over on the way to the mound. I also love the catcher, who's laughing, probably thinking, "this is gonna be something." Then, the look Mariah gives him back, saying, "Yeah, this IS gonna be something." Then there's the pitch. Just priceless. You have to TRY to throw something that bad. And finally, my favorite part. Mariah's cute little bounce up and down at the end showing the entire world just how girly she really is. (As if the pitch hadn't already summed that up.)
But I give her credit. She's a girl and wants nothing to do with the game of baseball besides dancing up to a mound and throwing a pitch straight to the ground. But she's proud of that. And well, I respect that.
Mariah Carey did prove one thing by throwing out her first pitch. She's in a league of her own.
