This past March, Corporal Christopher Levi returned from the battlefields of Iraq -- a wounded warrior. The 25-year-old soldier from Holbrook lost both legs and the use of his right arm when a roadside bomb hit his humvee. But he hasn't lost his will to fight. His mom, Debbie, told me that he said, "The Army issued me a new pair of legs and it's my job to use it to the best of my ability."
Corporal Levi is now undergoing intensive rehabilitation at Walter Reed Medical Center. He's learning how to walk on prosthetic legs. His long road to recovery is paved with the love and support of many.
They include, first and foremost, his parents. I had the pleasure of meeting Corporal Levi's mother, Debbie. Talking to her gave me an understanding of where her soldier son gets his fighting spirit. She's upbeat, loving and committed to helping her son with his toughest battle.
The Holbrook Fire Department is also giving Corporal Levi a helping hand. They're raising money to make his Holbrook home wheelchair accessible. They plan to donate their time and labor to make the renovations.
Total strangers like Glenn Diener of Medford are also helping. Diener, a Vietnam War vet, organized a flower show benefit for Levi. And young girls from Levi's neighborhood held a lemonade sale to pitch in.
Corporal Levi will undergo about a year and half of therapy at Walter Reed Medical Center before coming home to Holbrook. The Iraq war hero has many heroes on the homefront rooting for him.
