I am here on vacation on Fire Island in the community of Kismet. Our house is called ALL ABOARD----ain't that the truth!
So here at ALL ABOARD, a three bedroom--one bathroom-- beach cottage---my two sisters--my sister in law--all their kids--I think it's three --my four kids--their friends--2 to 9 depending on what day it is --- are hanging out for the week--
Besides the friends--the friends of friends--my friends have come as well---
Carol Silva and Deb Gade --my dear friends from work came by with their kids--Parents of some of Rebekah's friends--came over for the day too. Grandparents stopped by ---Aunts and Uncles came --it really was quite a group. Like a good hand of Poker---It was a full house! We made tacos for about 21 tonight----It was like Taco Bell H-- E-- double hockey pucks!
Here on Fire Island--life is easy breezy--and even though it takes me a bit to wind down--I finally do--and I wonder how I will ever go back??!!--I don't wear make up--blow dry my hair--or worry about to much.
We make buckets of macaroni and cheese--and gallons of Iced Tea---we eat Ice cream at least twice a day--we swim and bike and play crazy Monopoly games--we all do the dishes together and sing the Partridge Family's Greatest Hits--we do a lot of singing--and dancing--the little kids love it--the teenagers cringe and yet you can tell they like it too. We sing to "ANNIE" -- Beatles--The Bee Gees--Johnny Cash--The Sound Of Music--and every patriotic song we know--our favorite----Your a Grand Old Flag!
We take late night walks to the ocean to see the stars--we let the dishes pile up if we want--we get sand EVERYWHERE--even when we try not to---
The kids catch snappers by the bucket fulls and then let them go--the kids are always barefoot--the play pool barefoot in the Kismet Inn--while parents sit and laugh over dinner--
The biggest problem we have here is whether the kids have enough sun screen on.
We walk to the lighthouse and ride our bikes--best of all--we just finished a one thousand piece puzzle of America's Lighthouses--which of course included the FI Lighthouse!
I was so obnoxious {they tell me} because every time I got a puzzle piece in---I would do little victory dance!!
We reconnect--we smile--we laugh--it is not luxurious--there are no spas or fancy restaurants--
However there are no cars and no concerns---
It is called Kismet and it is to me!
very cute piece on the family vacation. you proved you don't have to leave long island to have a great time. back up your family, friends that make you feel good , simple yet tasty food , mix in good music , games and a long island seashore and you have found heaven . can we come next year. ed
