There are so many great things about Long Island in the summer.
High on my list of summer favorites: Concerts at Jones Beach!
I love sitting outside under the stars with the light sound of the waves crashing.
I just got to see John Mayer and even though the rain wouldn't stay away--it never dampened vibe in the crowd. Look at these shots I was able to take!!
What a great concert--Colbie Calliat opened for John (you may know her from her tune "Bubbly" or the one that's out now called "Realize").
I've had her album Coco for ages, but hearing her live really added another dimension to her sound.
She's quite soulful and smooth, which was perfect for a nice summer night.
As soon as she stepped off stage it seemed as though someone had given a cue to open the skies!
Down came the rain!
Luckily we were able to head to a tented area and stay dry.
Just about 20 minutes later, the rain stopped and the signature sound of John Mayer began to fill the air.
We all rushed back to our seats.
The crowd stayed on their feet (ok, ok, so maybe all the seats were wet, but it's a concert, so we should all be dancing:).
John is from Connecticut, and he talked about playing at home, turning on the TV and knowing where all the channels are!!
He also told the crowd how the first concert he ever saw was at Jones Beach ( Dave Matthews)
He also brought his brother to play a song with him and the band (the two of them are in the larger picture on top), and later he brought out all his friends to do "Waiting for the World to Change."
His poetic skills with lyrics--and his witty personality--made the night, and even though Mother Nature decided to open up the skies AGAIN... it seemed as though no one moved.
John even thanked us for staying through the rain and really played his heart out.
Great music rain or shine is great music!!
