One's a 41 year old mother of three. One's an Australian chef who once weighed 250 lbs. And one is a 33 year old sportscaster who works out and takes good care of himself. Two of these three are triathletes.
Well, as the great Meatloaf once said, "Two out of three ain't bad because I'm sitting this one out!"
Corey Robertson & Stephanie Gehrke are the two subjects of my upcoming triathlon series. The energy these two bring to the table is off the charts. Corey, especially, has such a passion for life and especially for racing.
The race we're covering is the Mighty North Fork Triathlon in Southold. Here are the specs:
SWIM-500 Meters
Out and back along the shore in the Peconic Bay
BIKE- 8 Miles
One loop with rolling hills
RUN-3.5 Miles
One loop with rolling hills, water stop at the 1.5 mile mark.
This is described as a great beginner triathlon and one of the more scenic races on the Island. And as far as the popularity of triathlons, fuhgetaboutit! Nassau-Suffolk's largest triathlon, the Tobay Triathlon in Oyster Bay, started with a few hundred racers back in the '80s. The field is now is capped out at 1,500-and has reached its max the past five years.
There are also a GAZILLION websites relating to triathlons; here are a few, including one following our own weatherman, Rich Hoffman!

That's a great race. I ran it 2 years ago. Triathlons are VERY popular! You should run one. Keep up the good work. CHris.
