By Colleen McVey
Sunday I did one of my favorite things - I sat at the beach and read a great book. But this book was different. I couldn't put it down - I finished it in one day and now I am passing it on to my husband, Tony, and my children Matt, Greg, and Maggie. The book is The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. Randy died July 25 from Pancreatic Cancer. His book is about the last lecture he gave at Carnegie Mellon University last September ( Randy was a professor at Carnegie Mellon). At that time, he knew he was dying - but his book is not about dying. It's about living - or more importantly - it's about how to lead your life. In Randy's words - " if you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself. The dreams will come to you." His thoughts are so simple and honest. His story is inspiring and has special meaning to me.
This summer I was diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma which requires surgery. I will admit I've been feeling sorry for myself - but I found Randy's book at just the right time. It helped me realize that what I have is a benign bump in the road - not a roadblock. I will be away from the anchor desk for a few weeks, but I should be back by the end of September. So - I have a good "summer read" for you - I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I think it's safe to say The "News 12 Family" becomes an invited family to all of us - and it's not the same with out you! I hope you're feeling better and I hope for your safe, healthy and speedy return!
God Bless.

Colleen,
I miss seeing you on News 12 and I was hoping you didn't leave. I hope you are feeling much better after your surgery and will pray for your recovery. You and Lea make a great team and the News is not the same without you! I'm going to check out the book you recommended, sounds like a great read.

Colleen is one of the great ladies of News12. She is brave and cool under fire and will get through this with her usual elegance.
We all wish her the very best.

Hey, Lady...Good luck with that. It's a horror show to have a doc tell you something like that, but once you settle down and look around you realuize "I can do this". And you will. You're in our prayers.
