As a registered dietitian I am disappointed that news 12 would broadcast such a story. Many of the herbal remedies mentioned in this story have little, if any at all, scientific evidence proving their benefits. In fact, many of the products can be harmful if take in amounts over the RDA (which was suggested in this article!) not to mention they are not regulated by the FDA so you never know what is really in the pill. Maybe at Whole Foods they are promoting their products but it should not be done by providing false information. I would like to see a study proving that dairy products produce phlem that sequester bacteria. Last I checked phlem helps to keep the mucus membranes moist and aid in fighting against bacteria. It would have been nice to see a story like this come from a more reputable source. There is a big difference between a "nutritionist" and a registered dietitian.
