There's a new shopping Mecca on Long Island--Tanger Outlets at the Arches. It's in Deer Park and opens Thursday. Currently, the European inspired shopping experience sports 70 stores, restaurants and a movie theater. By next year 120 stores will be open. And in November, a fountain flowing water will freeze up to become an ice skating rink.
It's great news for many in Nassau and Suffolk who don't want to drive to Riverhead to the other Tanger Outlet Mall. But the new one in Deer Park is a hybrid-discounted mall. Some shops sell merchandise at full price, including Old Navy, the restaurants and the movie theater.
The 800,000 square foot complex was built with the environment in mind. For example, the developer says crews used environmentally friendly methods to move construction materials to the site. And some of the materials used to build the complex are also "green." It also has energy efficient lights that are controlled by a single computer.
The Arches is also providing free shuttle bus service to and from the Deer Park LIRR Train Station.
If you'd like a list of the stores and restaurants at Tanger Outlets at the Arches go to tangeroutlet.com.
this place is amazing. dont believe the negative press about the traffic. i went there two times already and got there in a breese. this weekened top name bands are playing the gin blossoms, chaep trick, southside jonny, jordan sparks, and the place is beautiful. the shooping and discounts are amazing.
boo to the media - all they tell you is bad this and bad that - there is nothing bad about this - it's great. the news people should be ashamed.
