Things have gotten way too complicated. I grew up at a time when we had one television in the house and it could only tune 7 channels: 2,4,5,7,9,11 and 13 (which by the way no one watched even 40 years ago). There were no remotes so you tended to keep the set on one channel and channel hopping was a very limited option.
Look at the remotes I now have to accomplish the same thing. Here's what I found on the table last night.
From left to right you see the DVD remote, TV remote, portable phone, cell phone at the very top, cable remote and Audio remote. Those two white things are Wi controllers. And this is not all. I have a similar collection of devices in the bedroom and televisions in 3 other rooms. Of course there is an advantage to all of this. I would not be happy without the wide screen HDTV, stereo surround sound and ability to answer the phone without getting off my butt.
