Early on, the death of 59 year old Diane Edwards was called suspicious. Wednesday night she was found by police in her Melville home unconscious and bleeding from a head wound. In the home police say there was no sign of forced entry and no furniture in disarray that might indicate signs of struggle.
The medical examiners report, which came out Thursday afternoon, showed she was killed -- not by the head wound -- by by what they are calling a 'Neck Compression'. The kind of injury that could have been caused by a choke hold.
It was a male relative who called police, saying he found Edwards bleeding in the home when he went to check on her. Police won't say who the relative is, and are not calling him a suspect. But many questions arose when cops also wrapped crime scene tape around the house around the corner that neighbors say belongs to a man they call Edwards son in law.
Some neighbors say they are concerned about their safety, since police have not issued a motive, made no arrests and have no suspects.
But others say they will wait 'till they get more information from police before they decide -- if their previously quiet neighborhood -- near Walt Whitman Mall off of Rt. 110 -- is now a danger zone.
Police are still looking for clues.
