So here we go again Jets fans.
On Wednesday morning, the Jets will cart out their lastest "savior", their latest "defensive guru" and their latest "hot assistant" when they introduce Rex Ryan as the 16th head coach in franchise history.
Call it the Mangenius part deux. Three-plus years ago Eric Mangini was brought in because he was a bright young mind who players and colleagues raved about. Now he's the head coach in Cleveland.
Let's hear what Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum has to say about his new prized catch:
“During our search, we were looking for a great football mind and a passionate leader,” Tannenbaum said. “Rex is a coach with an established track record who is universally respected by players and coaches for his skills as a communicator and his creativity.”
Where Ryan differs from Mangini is his passion. He has been quoted as saying he doesn't possess the "silver tongue" that other coaches have. Translation: He calls it like it is, doesn't know what politically correct means, and will have much more engaging press conferences than his predecessor.
And for Jets fans, Ryan knows all about a guy by the name of Broadway Joe. You see, his dad, Buddy, was on the Jets defensive staff rom 1968-1975, serving as the defensive line coach on the Super Bowl championship team in '68.
Optimism reigns supreme. Once again the Jets grab all of the OFF-SEASON headlines. Let's see what happens with the latest "architect".
Hey coach, first question, what's up with Brett Favre?
