I've been looking back over the snowfall records at Brookhaven National Lab (http://www.bnl.gov/weather/4cast/snow.html). When we have above normal Snowfall for December, we usually have above normal snowfall for the season. Seasonal Snowfall is 30.5 inches. There have only been 5 times when we had an above normal December that we did not reach 30 inches. Snow lovers hold out hope. January is the coldest month but February is the snowiest.
The past two years we had below normal snowfall so the snow lovers have missed out. Our snowiest winter was in 1995-96 when we had 90.8". On the other hand, in the Winter of 1997-98, we only had 4.5 inches all winter.

Hey, Rich..Your old friend John from West Islip..This storm you are predicting for Monday night into Tuesday, is a all rain event, or snowstorm, or just another classic nor'easter? I was upstate driving the Motorcoach this past week,(around Ulster County), they forecast a snowstorm down here, and Accuweather seems to not want to say much about it. I will be off from work monday and tuesday, I would love the snow, take my daughters sledding on Montauk by the Robert Moses hill,so heres holding out hope:) Hope your New Year is going well!! All the best..John
