Twenty years ago most of the “holistic” physicians on Long Island were chiropractors. I am so grateful for that. I went to them for adjustments, for exercise recommendations, for nutritional counseling and for allergy treatments as well as extensive diagnostic testing. Over the years I have gotten a lot of help. Each one had something different to offer.
Now we have more choices: more osteopaths are choosing hands on manipulation. We are also blessed with naturopathic physicians, and holistic medical doctors. The osteopaths, naturopaths and chiropractors all do hands on manipulation. I could not say which technique is best, because it seems that it depends not so much on the kind of medicine but the kind of person doing the healing.
There are many ways to heal. Given any set of symptoms there are many natural modalities that can make the difference. For an allergy, someone could use homeopathy, herbal remedies, or NAET. {the Nambutripad Allergy Elimination Technique } They all work. But sometimes it’s a relationship that makes the difference. I wonder if that’s what happened to Dennis Condra of Northport. His life was nightmarish. He had beaten cancer but years later was still unable to eat any solid food or even have a normal conversation. His mouth was so dry from the radiation damage, he was always sick, always suffering with infections. Then one day, a young physician wanted to help. He found his miracle. I have no doubt that osteopathy heals. It has worked for me. But I wonder if it’s the physician rather than the specific technique that makes the difference.
One benefit is that traditional osteopaths who practice hands on manipulation can bill your insurance company just like a medical doctor. {Of course, chiropractic adjustments are covered by most insurance companies.} But everything an osteopath does may be covered. Depending on what you need …an osteopath may be worth a try.

I was watching your blog this afternoon with PT Mitchell Yass from Farmingdale, NY. I was able to experience PT with Mitch about 9-10 years ago. I was 13 years old and diagnosed with two herniated discs with a large calcification in between them at T11-12. I was told by the neurosurgeon that I had an 80% chance of getting a spinal reconstructive type of surgery. On top of being on the anti-inflammatory medication and pain medications I started PT with Mitch. Luckily, I was able to work out of my pain and continue to live a normal life until today; virtually pain and complication free. When I saw this segment this afternoon I felt compelled to write about my experience in the hopes that others diagnosed with conditions like myself to try a treatment plan such as Mitch's. As a nursing student and my acquired knowledge I am able to say that I really do agree with his view on treatment of these types of diagnoses.
