IM A LITTLE DISTURBED BY THE COMMENTS POSTED .THERE SHOULD BE MONEY IN OUR GOVERNMENT STATE AND LOCAL DISTRICTS TO EMBRACE ALL OF OUR CHILDREN NO MATTER WHAT THEY ASPIRE TO LEARN OR SUCCEED IN LIFE!

How about making the kids who participate in sports, drama, art, dance after school programs pay their own way? Where is their copay? Not all students take advantage of these programs either!! And it has nothing to do with basic education - reading, writing, math - yet it is covered in the school budget and they aren't being asked to pay for services unrelated to education!

Spitzer screwed the prostitutes - now Patterson is screwing our kids! Parents of autistic children have tons of medical bills that typical children do not have. Did he ever consider that? Did he consider if they don't get services now, they will end up on Medicare and collecting SSI later because they won't be employable or have communication skills. I hope everyone with an autistic child in New York moves to a state that supports helping them now so they are productive later w/o putting the additional burden on the wrong people! He keeps this up and New York will be a ghost town!
