Every weekday morning, From 5:30 to 8:00, you can watch Heather Kovar anchoring the News 12 Connecticut morning newscasts.
After that, you never know where you may see her out and about in southwestern Connecticut, as she looks for local stories to tell.
Prior to joining News 12 Connecticut as an anchor and reporter, Heather was a freelance journalist. You could find her filling in for the News 12 Network in Connecticut, Westchester and Long Island. She also did work in Hartford, as well as in New York City reporting from the Nasdaq for Reuters. Prior to that she served as Co-host for a news talk show on RNN.
From 1998 to 2001, Heather worked as weekend anchor and reporter at the NBC affiliate WKTV in Utica, New York. Her anchoring was part of the coverage of Woodstock '99 that won the station a New York State AP award. Heather also enjoyed providing live coverage from Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Weekends in Cooperstown. Heather also spent time in Elmira, New York as main anchor at the ABC affiliate WENY. That's the opportunity that moved her north from Dallas, Texas.
In Dallas, she served as a freelance reporter for a cable station. She also anchored top of the hour newscasts for USA Radio Network News, a national syndicate.
Heather began her career at the NBC affiliate KXAS in Dallas/Fort Worth. She started as an intern, was hired as a writer, promoted to overnight assignment manager and even did some reporting.
Heather has degrees in Journalism and Psychology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She studied International Communications at Regents College in London.
Heather enjoys reading, painting, walking her dog and exploring historic areas of southwestern Connecticut and New York
